Emma, sorry, just to be clear: is that a tourist guide that is not very many pages long, or is it a guide to Gisborne for really short tourists? Cos I'm a bit confused...

...i dunno, I reckon Robyn's got it just about sussed. Seems to me that she's packed more into a visit to Gisborne than most people do in a whole lifetime. Why, she went to the gallery and a whole 2 cafes. And stayed a night there too. Last time I went there I just bought a can opener and kept on going...

Having checked out a few Cribs tracks on Youtube now they do seem, indeed, pretty cool. I am sorry to admit that I would have been fanboyish about Marr, had I been there. Does he actually add much to the band other than his guitar? From this angle it seems a bit of a stunt.

'The One about Girls' has long been a personal favourite.

Does anyone remember the name of a CD compilation that had that track on it. It also had a Snap-esque track called 'I need rhythm'...

Also does anyone know if the lyrics to the 'What can we say' album are up online somewhere?

Cheers!

I am currently being employed to write, among other things, a short tourist guide to Gisborne. You're not, it has to be said, helping enormously.

I say good on the Troopers. Who would want to be tacked on to the sides and back of somebody else's memorial? It makes one wonder what is round the back of the Lincoln Memorial, or tucked into a corner of Trafalgar Square.

I have heard of Hamble! An English woman I work with is filled with a strange hatred for the frumpy little doll. Fortunately Manu was a much nicer one.

one of the last things we did in the UK before emigrating to New Zealand less than 3 months ago was to go watch a comedy show being made at the BBC studios in London.

The show is set in a toy shop and on display was (allegedly) original big ted as used in the UK version of Play School. The warm up man started telling us about them but was quickly silenced by the production staff so i don't think we were meant to know (but the truth is out now perhaps?)

We didn't have a Manu in the UK, but we did have a Hamble, affectionally described 'the hate figure of the under-fives for the entire run of the programme': http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/classic/playschool/trivia.shtml

I shall definitely visit Te Papa to track these distant relatives of my own childhood idols. Albeit in their decapitated form.

Yay - Finally our country has grown up and we can appreciate other sports nz'ers are good at. I too were at the Stadium for this game and the Phoenix versus LA Galaxy two years ago. The atmosphere at these games were incredible!

Rugby, racing and beer is not for all.

Lovely pictures, lovely writing, as per usual. For the record, my favourite was part 6, but they have all been good.

(I have a collection of pictures of mailboxes with variations on the no junk mail sign - I may be slightly obsessive about it. But that's very much by the by.)
